20 years of Ex Machina: celebrating the People Behind Technology

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, at Teatro Foce in Lugano, we celebrated a special anniversary: Ex Machina’s 20 years.

The evening blended memories, culture, and moments of sharing. Sebastiano Cobianco, founder and CEO of Ex Machina, opened the evening by thanking all those present: “It took 20 years, but we made it!” and continued by emphasizing how this milestone is shared with many: “I firmly believe that this milestone would not have been reached without the contribution of so many people, customers, colleagues, consultants, friends…” He also noted how “in two decades, the company has intertwined the professional and personal journey of about a hundred people.

Sebastiano spoke warmly about the network of relationships built over the years: the trust of Clients in Switzerland and abroad, connections with Universities and Research Institutes, support for Professional Associations and local events, involvement in Ticino startups, and collaboration with various NGOs. “All of this has been possible through a business model that is aware of the context that surrounds us and each of the people within the company, combining cutting-edge development skills with a humanistic vision of technology,” he concluded before introducing the show.

The evening continued with the performance “Camillo Olivetti. At the roots of a dream” by Laura Curino. Her intense acting brought to life the story of the founder of the iconic Olivetti factory. She gave voice to the women of the family – Camillo’s mother (Elvira Sacerdoti) and wife (Luisa Revel) – along with the lively and sometimes comical voice of Camillo himself. The show also embraced the factory workers and the common people of Ivrea, all divided between suspicion and admiration for such an unconventional and visionary entrepreneur.

The choice of the show was deliberate. “I saw the show a few years ago and was struck by its content and inspirational power. I thought it was a perfect show to celebrate our 20th anniversary,” said Sebastiano, “the Olivetti saga talks about technology, people, and entrepreneurship, all themes dear to Ex Machina since its inception.”

After the show, the evening continued in the theater foyer with drinks and appetizers in a relaxing atmosphere. It was also the perfect opportunity to meet former colleagues, demonstrating their special bond with Ex Machina even after years.

At Ex Machina, we believe that technology only makes sense when it puts people at the center. Last Thursday’s event perfectly reflected this idea. The next 20 years are yet to be written, and we will write them together. One day at a time.
